About Monika

Monika is a charming, approximately 1-year-old female Labrador mix who weighs around 26 lbs. She was rescued in March 2024 from the streets of Saltillo, Mexico, along with her mother and siblings. Initially shy and fearful, Monika has blossomed with lots of love and patience from her foster family. She is now a very playful, funny, and food-motivated girl who is crate-trained and doing wonderfully socializing with other dogs and people. She's a noble and submissive soul who is a little shy and cautious, needing a patient and loving adopter to help her fully trust her humans.

Ideal Home

Monika would thrive in an active home with a family that enjoys daily walks or hiking. A securely fenced backyard is a must for her. Her ideal family will have open hearts and minds regarding the needs of rescued street animals, understanding their need for protection and education. Previous experience with dog behavior and training would be beneficial, as would a high level of tolerance and patience for a rescued pup still learning to trust. She is not yet house-trained.

Ongoing Health

Monika is spayed and has received her DHPPI vaccines, rabies vaccine, and Bordetella vaccine. She has been dewormed and tested negative for heartworm. She also received a 4DX test and certificate. She is on monthly preventive protection with Nexgard Spectra for fleas, ticks, and heartworm. A health certificate and vaccination booklet are available.

Training & Support

Monika is not house-trained and will need consistent effort and patience to learn this. Her foster family has noted that while she is socializing well, she is a bit shy, reserved, and cautious, requiring time and affection to build trust. Her rescuers emphasize that it's an impossible job to house-train every rescued pet due to the sheer number of animals needing care, and they ask for adopters to be prepared for this aspect of rehabilitation.
