Nikko is an adorable and sweet approximately 20-25 lb Miniature Australian Shepherd mix, born on January 28, 2020. He's had a tough start, with at least four homes before finding his way to us. Despite his past, Nikko is incredibly affectionate and bonds deeply with his person, never taking his eyes off them. He knows how to "sit," loves car rides, and adores snuggling, often sleeping at the foot of the bed or in your lap. He's house-trained, kennel-trained, and enjoys playing with toys and other dogs.
Ideal Home
Nikko would thrive in a calm, adult-only home without cats, as he tends to bark at and chase them. He needs a patient owner who can help him feel secure, especially around men. While he loves children, a home with less foot traffic and fewer visitors would be ideal to prevent overstimulation. Experience with the Miniature Australian Shepherd breed would be beneficial.
Ongoing Health
Nikko is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and on heartworm prevention. He is microchipped and has no other known health conditions.
Training & Support
Nikko experiences some separation anxiety and can be skittish in new situations due to his past. He has a specific behavioral pattern where he barks at men in the home when they arrive, especially if his primary person is present. While he can warm up to foster dads, he may initially view them as intruders. He can also get overstimulated by a lot of activity and may try to "herd" other dogs. Consistency and a stable environment will be key to helping him build confidence.
