Iris was pulled from a high-kill shelter in Texas along with her siblings, and she's the last one still waiting for her forever home! This beautiful 3.5-year-old Shepherd/Black Mouth Cur mix is a compact 47 pounds and is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. Iris is goofy, playful, affectionate, and genuinely sweet, but she needs a little time to warm up. Once she trusts you, she is all in! She'd be a dream for someone working from home but truly belongs somewhere quieter, with trails and open space away from the chaos of city streets. She loves a good game of fetch and is a tender soul trying her best.
Ideal Home
Iris would thrive in an adult-only home with someone who works from home or can provide a quieter lifestyle. She would do beautifully away from the density and noise of city life, ideally with access to trails or open space. She needs a home where her boundaries can be respected, and she can be given space when needed.
Ongoing Health
Iris is up-to-date on all vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed.
Training & Support
Iris is dog-selective and does best with slow, intentional introductions. While she can be reactive to other dogs and people she doesn't know, with patience, she has built genuine friendships and can play with dogs in her foster home. Play works best when food and toys are kept out of the mix. She exhibits some food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs, so she should be fed separately if there are other dogs in the home. Iris is fully potty trained and crate trained; her crate is her sanctuary. She walks well on leash, though she can be reactive to dogs that get too close, so an owner who knows how to create distance and set her up for success is ideal. Iris needs someone patient who understands her fear-based reactivity and is willing to help her build confidence with slow, low-pressure introductions.
