Princess is a delightful approximately four-year-old spayed female Terrier Pittie mix, born on November 14, 2021. She's currently in a foster home in Fort Worth, TX. Princess was adopted from a high-kill shelter and then returned because she was deemed "too energetic" and "too happy" – can you believe it! She's up-to-date on all her shots, heartworm negative, and on monthly prevention. She's crate trained and house-trained. While she was initially high-energy, she has settled down beautifully in her foster home, showing her true loving nature. She adores car rides and squeaky toys. She knows her commands but can get excited and jump for attention; however, a gentle correction and a "sit" command will have her happily sitting for pets. Princess is a joyous dog who needs an owner who will embrace her happy spirit! She's an avid chewer and thrives with appropriate chew toys like Kongs and bully sticks, much like a puppy. She'll bark for attention, including to go outside or for affection, and she understands that sitting is the key to receiving pets. She's friendly with all dogs, regardless of gender or size, and also gets along with cats, though her energy level might be overwhelming for very small animals.
Ideal Home
Princess would thrive in an active home with older children, an active couple, or an active single person. She is not suited for apartment living and absolutely NEEDS A FENCED YARD, as she is not reliably off-leash trained without one. She can be the only pet if given plenty of exercise or could happily share her home with a doggy buddy who matches her zest for life. She would do best without small animals due to her high energy.
Ongoing Health
Princess is up-to-date on all vaccinations, is heartworm negative, and is on monthly heartworm and flea/tick prevention.
Training & Support
Princess knows her commands, including sit, come, stay, off, and heel for leash walking. She takes treats very nicely. She needs continued positive reinforcement to manage her excitement and jumping, but she learns quickly that sitting will earn her attention. As an avid chewer, providing her with a variety of appropriate chew toys is essential to prevent her from chewing on inappropriate items.
