Meet Onyx, a delightful 7-year-old Chi Dachshund mix who weighs around 20lbs. This sweet girl has a gentle spirit and a personality that's sure to bring a smile to your face every day. Onyx is spayed, vaccinated, and up to date on all her preventatives, making her ready to find the loving home she truly deserves.
Onyx's journey began when she was rescued from the euthanasia list at a crowded shelter in Houston. Since her rescue, she's been showcasing her special qualities and proving just how wonderful she is. She's currently being fostered in San Antonio, but she's ready to travel to her perfect home with approved adopters!
Ideal Home
Given Onyx's age and a touch of arthritis, she thrives in a calmer environment. A semi-active to low-activity household would be ideal, allowing her to enjoy short walks and plenty of opportunities for relaxation. While she loves a good stroll, she's equally happy to settle in for some loving neck scratches, belly rubs, and a cozy nap. She has done well with respectful children ages 7-12 and would do best with older, dog-savvy children.
Ongoing Health
Onyx is spayed, vaccinated, and up to date on all preventatives. She does have a bit of arthritis, so a home that understands her need for a gentler pace is important.
Training & Support
Onyx is a well-behaved girl! She is house-trained, chooses to sleep in her crate at night, and can be left for up to 10 hours if needed. She doesn't resource guard or show food aggression, and she's trustworthy enough to have free roam of the house without being destructive. She does get a little excited on leash when meeting new dog friends, which is something to keep in mind during introductions.

Transportation
Onyx is currently located in San Antonio, Texas. She is eligible for transport to approved adopters out of state. Transports occur every few weeks, and approved adopters will be placed on the next available transport. If you have a specific timeframe for adoption, please apply closer to that time.
