Milo is a sweet and timid 4-year-old male Chihuahua mix who weighs just over 4 pounds. He was rescued from a difficult situation where he and seven other dogs were surrendered due to an eviction. Milo was very scared when he first arrived, even labeled a "flight risk," but he has since blossomed into a cuddly lap dog who loves to be carried. He's a low-energy pup with low grooming needs, making him a relatively low-maintenance companion. Milo is good with other dogs, but his compatibility with cats is unknown.
Ideal Home
Milo would thrive in a calm home where he can continue to build his confidence. He is not recommended for homes with small children, including visiting grandchildren, or very active households. Due to his small size, he must be an indoor-only dog and never left unsupervised outside, even with secure fencing. He does not do well on a leash and prefers to be carried.
Ongoing Health
Milo is heartworm positive and is undergoing a "gentle kill" treatment protocol. This involves a 30-day course of Doxycycline and a 6-month Proheart injection, which helps kill larvae and sterilizes adult heartworms. This method is slower than traditional treatment but is less harsh on the dog. He will require continued monitoring and potentially further treatment as recommended by a veterinarian. Milo has been neutered, had dental work done, is up-to-date on vaccinations, and is on monthly flea and tick prevention.
Training & Support
Milo is still building confidence and may initially be timid in a new environment, but he adjusts well with patience and reassurance. He is not guaranteed to be housetrained, but with consistency, he should learn quickly in the right home. Kennel training is recommended when he cannot be supervised.
