Nibbles was born on October 12, 2025, and as of March 21, 2026, he weighs 2.5kg (5.5 pounds) and is slowly gaining weight. He came to us from a Canadian shelter after his owner could no longer afford his medical care. Upon arrival, Nibbles was admitted to Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital where he was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a neurological condition caused by an excess of cerebrospinal fluid leading to brain swelling. His diagnosis and initial treatment cost $5,528.84.
Nibbles is currently on a lifelong medication regimen of Prednisone and Omeprazole, which costs approximately $56 for a one-month supply. We have seen significant improvement since he started his medication on March 26th, and expect this to continue. He has a follow-up appointment with his neurologist in April. While he will always be a dog with special needs, he is adoptable and can live a fulfilling life with proper care. With his medication, we expect him to have a normal life expectancy, but it's important to understand that with any medical condition, there's always a possibility of unforeseen changes. Nibbles has received vaccinations on January 8th, January 22nd, and February 5th, and his rabies vaccine will be completed by us. Due to heightened anesthesia risks associated with hydrocephalus, his neuter surgery is pending further consultation with his neurologist. Nibbles will also require regular professional grooming, which should be factored into your budget. He is a wonderful boy who will make a beautiful companion.
Ideal Home
Nibbles would thrive in a quiet environment without young children. He would do well as a solo dog or with another dog of equal size. A securely fenced backyard is a must for his safety.
Ongoing Health
Nibbles has hydrocephalus, a lifelong neurological condition requiring daily medication. He may have heightened anesthesia risks.
Training & Support
Nibbles is still working on his potty training and may have occasional accidents, but he is showing remarkable improvement with routine and consistency. He can sometimes try to remove his belly band if one is used. He may also try to eat other dogs' food if left accessible. He has a tendency to lick and playfully bite toes.
