About Watson
My mom jokes that she can never tell if I'm sad or irritated with my pouty lip, but I just tell her, "I'm a bulldog!" While my facial expressions might suggest I'm displeased, my heart tells a different story. I was surrendered to Hope 4 Paws by my former family, who had me since I was a pup. My intake condition wasn't great – I arrived with a tight, restrictive chain, severely overgrown nails, and skin that was flaking off. After a concerning bowel movement, the staff rushed me to the hospital where it was discovered I had a long-untreated skin infection that caused me immense itching and stretched skin around my midsection. My veterinarian also diagnosed me with a thyroid condition that affects my metabolism and makes it hard for me to lose weight. The staff here has me on a successful weight loss program and medication for my hypothyroidism, but I'll need regular vet rechecks. I'm a great patient and love to get attention from the techs at the hospital!
Like any good bulldog, I'm a bit of a couch potato who enjoys short walks and long naps. I'm not a huge fan of the heat, but I love splashing in my kiddie pool and playing with the hose. I previously lived with a cat and am unsure about my doggie neighbors, as I haven't had much socialization with other dogs. I might be able to coexist with a large, female dog, but I'd truly prefer to be your one and only furry friend. I've gotten into a bit of trouble for biting and swinging on things, a behavior that was encouraged for the first six years of my life. If you have a shirt tied around your waist, a loose rope, or anything resembling a tug toy, I'm likely to grab it and want to play. While it's a fun game to me, I understand it's not ideal. For this reason, I'm best suited for a home with children aged twelve and older.
Now for the good stuff! I walk wonderfully on my leash and am easily managed by volunteers of all experience levels. I'm also incredibly friendly and greet everyone like an old friend. I love chasing my squeaky balls in the yard and will happily snuggle in your lap for a sweet kiss. I'm housetrained when kept on a consistent schedule and will let you know when I need to go outside.
Ideal Home
A home with children twelve and older. I would prefer to be the only pet in the household, though I may be able to coexist with a large, female dog. I enjoy short walks and long naps, and I'm not a fan of the heat.
Ongoing Health
I have a skin infection that is being treated and a thyroid condition (hypothyroidism) that requires medication and regular vet rechecks. I am on a weight loss program to manage my metabolism.
Training & Support
I need continued guidance to unlearn the habit of biting and swinging on things that resemble toys. I am housetrained when kept on a consistent schedule.
