About Spike

Meet Spike!

This spirited two-year-old German Shepherd mix is a handsome boy with a striking black coat and a bright white chest patch. He's about 50 pounds and possesses a beautiful blend of athletic energy and tenderhearted devotion. Spike is affectionate, highly intelligent, and wonderfully playful! He believes he's a lap dog and will gently climb into your lap for belly rubs and attention. His favorite toys are squeaky ones, and he loves to chase and pounce. Spike is also an enthusiastic swimmer who will happily jump into the pool, making him a great companion for an active person who enjoys running, hiking, or outdoor adventures.

When Spike first arrived, he was fearful and easily startled. Over the past year and a half, he has gained tremendous confidence and now seeks affection, initiates play, and enjoys cuddles. While he may bark at strangers out of uncertainty, he recovers quickly and looks to his people for reassurance.

Ideal Home

Spike needs a patient, experienced pet parent who can provide a fenced yard, loving guidance, and steady leadership in a caring environment. He may sometimes whimper if he sees his people cuddling another dog and would benefit from thoughtful introductions to other dogs, though he has lived peacefully with female dogs.

Ongoing Health

Spike is neutered and microchipped.

Training & Support

Spike is crate-trained and house-trained. He knows commands like sit, wait, crate, out, and no, and he comes when called. He waits patiently for treats and responds well to structure and positive reinforcement. When left alone for short periods, he relaxes and naps peacefully in his crate. Loud sirens can make him uneasy. With patience and reassurance, he continues to blossom.
