Onyx von Oelsnitz"

Onyx von Oelsnitz is a handsome 18-month-old German Shepherd full of playful energy. This mid-sized boy is a friend to all, whether human or canine, and is always up for an adventure. He's incredibly sweet and affectionate, often nuzzling his head into your arms for comfort. Onyx is highly motivated by treats and already knows his basic commands like "Sit" and "Down." He thoroughly enjoys his time at the rescue, including running alongside a bike and socializing with other dogs. His tail wags non-stop when he meets a new canine friend, and he's a great playmate in group settings. While he may initiate play, he's also a submissive dog who knows when to calm down. He's not a fan of cats, but has shown he can do well when meeting small dogs. Come visit this fun and friendly guy at Westside!

Onyx recently had the chance to join a monthly hike and was a true star. His volunteer handler shared, "He was the first dog I ever walked when I joined Westside German Shepherd Rescue of Los Angeles last year - some might say that Onyx was the first Angeleno who befriended me! He does well in the car, loves looking out the window, walks great on leash, and loves to sit outside at brunch and have a burger after our hike. Love this lil boy and all his snuggles!"

Onyx was rescued by Good Sam from the South LA animal shelter and then surrendered to us.

Ideal Home

Onyx would do well in a home with an active lifestyle where he can join in on adventures like bike rides. He is not a match for homes with cats.

Ongoing Health

Onyx is in good health.

Training & Support

Onyx knows his basic commands and is eager to please, especially with treats. He is friendly and social with other dogs.
