Meet Ernest!
Ernest is a gentle five-and-a-half-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix with a soft cream coat and soulful eyes that hint at the deep affection he carries for his people. Weighing around 75 pounds, he's a constant companion who loves staying close, offering sweet kisses, and quietly following his favorite humans from room to room. Ernest has grown into a thoughtful, sensitive boy who thrives on connection more than anything else. He has happily shared his world with children, a cat, and even chickens, showing a calm and friendly nature across many different companions. Ernest is wonderfully social with people and is often welcoming toward strangers, yet he also carries a layer of sensitivity that calls for understanding and patience.
Ideal Home
Ernest needs a home that is calm and supportive, with a caregiver who is present most of the time. He would do best in a home where his caregiver is not away for long workdays, as he truly needs a gentle, consistent presence throughout the day. Ernest does not do well with crates, kennels, or gates and experiences barrier frustration, so he will need a home that can provide him with freedom of movement in a safe and supportive way. He truly seeks connection and needs a loving home with an attentive guardian who is ready to support both his emotional world and his medical care. Ernest is looking for someone who understands sensitive dogs and finds joy in building trust.
Ongoing Health
Ernest requires daily medication, including Keppra and Prozac, to manage epilepsy and support his anxiety. His seizures are generally well managed with consistency and care.
Training & Support
Ernest can become overstimulated and may vocalize or struggle to settle, especially when there is a lot of movement or change around him, so a calm environment helps him feel secure. He benefits from structure, positive reinforcement, and a steady presence. He thrives with frequent walks and hikes, which help him feel balanced and fulfilled. While he is good with other dogs, he may need thoughtful introductions and continued guidance to keep play balanced and comfortable.
