TOBY is an approximately 5-6 year old Husky who was rescued just in time from a local shelter. He's a striking dog with a strong personality that requires a committed and experienced adopter who understands the Husky breed and can provide confident leadership. We believe Toby may have been a backyard dog in his past, but he's now looking for a loving home.
Toby is incredibly loyal and loves to be by his person's side, making him a wonderful companion. He's primarily an outdoor dog and needs access to a yard, as he can become anxious if kept inside for too long. Surprisingly for a Husky, Toby is not an escape artist and can be trusted to stay within his yard. He's also very playful and enjoys toys and outdoor elements, keeping himself entertained for hours. While he can be good with other dogs, he has had some issues and requires careful introductions. He is not a candidate for dog parks.
Toby has a mind of his own and can be a bit of a wild card. He is food-motivated, making treats an excellent training tool. However, he is food-possessive and will growl if anyone approaches his food, so he cannot be placed in a home with children. Like many Huskies, Toby is vocal and will "talk" to you, sometimes with a whine when he wants something, but he is not a barker. Toby exhibits stranger-danger and must be kept on a secure leash when in public. He seems more comfortable with women, and it's evident he can be intimidated by men, which is another reason he should always be leashed outdoors.
Ideal Home
Toby needs an experienced owner who is a strong pack leader and understands Husky traits. He requires ample outdoor space and should not be left unsupervised indoors for extended periods. Due to his food possessiveness and stranger-danger, he cannot be placed in a home with children. He also seems more comfortable in a home without men.
Ongoing Health
No specific health conditions are noted, but Toby is a dog with distinct behavioral needs to be managed.
Training & Support
Toby is food-motivated, which can be leveraged for training. He needs consistent guidance regarding his food possessiveness and stranger-danger. Continued leash training and management in public are essential.
