Shelby is a 6-month-old, spayed female Shepherd/Hound/Terrier mix who currently weighs 39 pounds and is expected to be a large dog when fully grown. She has a long body type and is a bundle of joyful, affectionate energy, eager to learn and deeply connected to her people. Shelby, along with her mom and sister, were rescued from a shelter in San Antonio, Texas, and have since thrived in foster care. She’s curious about the world, loves playing fetch, and enjoys a good game of chase. Shelby is also incredibly cuddly and loves to snuggle, often sitting on laps like a toddler. She has a goofy smile and a gentle nature that makes her truly endearing.
Ideal Home
Shelby would thrive in an active home that enjoys a dog's companionship and attention. She needs a family that is patient with puppy training and wants an active, affectionate family member. Whether it's hiking, walking, playing in the yard, or simply spending time together, Shelby wants to be included in all family adventures. She has done wonderfully with older children (ages 14, 16, and 19) and would likely do well with younger children, provided they understand puppy behavior and are patient with training and supervision.
Ongoing Health
Shelby is up-to-date on vaccinations and has been spayed. She has no known ongoing health conditions.
Training & Support
Shelby is house-trained with only minor "wandering behaviors" indoors when she needs to go out, and with consistency, she is expected to master house training quickly. She sleeps through the night in her crate and tolerates it, though she prefers being near her people and other dogs. She may bark briefly when crated during the day but will settle. She should not be crated excessively as she is social and happiest when included in daily life. Shelby is still learning basic commands and would benefit from continued training, especially scent-based activities. She eats enthusiastically and would benefit from a slow feeder. Any mild growling has only occurred with her sister and appears related to puppy competition for attention rather than true resource guarding.
