Barkley is a 2-year-old Shepherd/Cattle Dog mix who weighs 63 pounds. He was surrendered by Ashland Terrace Animal Hospital when his senior owners could no longer care for him due to his high energy. Barkley loves walks, cuddling on the couch, and hanging out with other dogs. Walks are his "happy place" and help him manage his energy. He can be timid when meeting new people, but once he warms up, he is incredibly loyal and loving. In a foster home, Barkley's anxiety decreased, he stopped leash biting and excessive jumping, and he became comfortable with a male human. He struggles in the shelter environment, so a forever home where he can thrive is what we're eager for.
Ideal Home
Barkley would do best in a home with another dog friend and without small children. He can be particular about his canine companions, preferring to be the "man in charge." He previously had a great bond with a female dog named Phoebe and would likely do well with another female or an easy-going male dog. As a Cattle Dog mix, he needs regular activity and would love a family that enjoys walking adventures.
