About Peanut - adoption pending

Peanut is exactly what his name suggests — a tiny little peanut of a dog. At 3 to 4 years old and only 14 pounds, he somehow looks even smaller in person. People see him and immediately say, “Oh my goodness, he is TEENSY!”

Peanut is a Puggle — part Pug, part Beagle — and he has the best and cutest traits of both. He has the sturdy little wide-legged stance and curled fluffy tail of a Pug, while the rest of him is pure Beagle charm. His expressions alone are enough to make people laugh, especially with an occasional head tilt.

Peanut loves toys, especially stuffed toys. He'll excitedly chase after one, proudly grab it, then suddenly seem unsure what comes next and circle right back to his person for attention instead. Because in Peanut's mind, toys are nice — but people are better.

He is a cuddler, a snuggler, and a professional attention-seeker. When you come home, Peanut rushes to the gate or door and “talks Beagle” to let you know just how happy he is that you returned. Despite those joyful greetings, he is not a constant barker. Most of the time, he's simply content being near his people.

Peanut is mostly crate trained and willingly goes into his crate at mealtime. He is food aggressive with other dogs so gets to eat all by himself, and he is pleased with the arrangement. He does not bark to be let out, even if left for hours, so he likely would be able to be left behind as needed. Although he tolerates it, it's not his sanctuary. It's a mealtime thing.

Peanut is learning potty training and making good progress. He walks reasonably well on a leash. He has not yet been around cats or children, but cat and kid testing can be arranged upon request.

Peanut is currently finishing heartworm treatment and is expected to complete it by late June. He will likely be adopted quickly once he is finished and early applications will be accepted. Continued monthly heartworm prevention will be very important for him going forward.

He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. Peanut is being fostered in southeast Nebraska, with possible meet-up options available for an approved adopter.

If interested in adoption, please fill out the adoption application at www.bassetandbeagle.org. His adoption fee is $400.00
