Meet our girl, Ashley!
Ashley is a gentle, smaller-sized young pup with the cutest little nose spots and the most charming Dobby ears you've ever seen. Ashley was at Chicago Animal Care and Control, which has been going through maintenance on their dog pavilions, for a few weeks. To help create space during construction, volunteers took dogs on 2 day sleepovers. The volunteer that took Ashley home for those 2 days liked her SO much that she reached out to us asking if we'd take her into our rescue so she could foster her longer. We knew Ashley had to be special, and we were so happy we could help Ashley.
We don't know Ashley's history before CACC, but she has some scars and clearly wasn't treated well. The first time she came in to our shelter for her intake exam with our vet, she had scaly, flaky, scabby, irritated skin, and she was so skinny. Ashley was scared of everything that day. The stress she had experienced for so long at CACC was showing on her body. After just a few weeks Ashley's coat is gleaming and she wears the biggest and brightest smile!
Ashley can still be shy meeting new people, but warms up quickly with some crouching down and baby talk. It only takes one shy meeting for her, then the next time she meets someone she loves them. She continues to grow confidence and has really bonded with her fosters, which shows that she is ready to bond with an adopter. Ashley currently lives with another dog, and she sure does love canine companions. She was a rockstar in playgroup at CACC and absolutely amazing with every dog in playgroup at our shelter. She is just the best!
Ashley seems to gain confidence around other dogs, and is very polite with dogs, so could definitely live with a similar sized doggy sibling. She could also live as an only pet and be just fine.
Ashley's foster mom really has only great things to say about her:
"She's fully potty trained, rarely barks, and follows you around like a loyal little shadow. Ashley is crate trained but can also be trusted to free roam for a full workday.
A bit shy at first, she quickly blossoms into an affectionate snuggler who loves curling up on the couch for a good movie. She walks beautifully on leash, knows sit and paw, and even does an adorable happy dance for treats! She settles calmly at your side and waits patiently.
In playgroups, she was a total rockstar, friendly and eager to please. Smart, loving, and incredibly easy to redirect, Ashley is the full package and so deserving of her forever home.
I can't wait for her to get adopted but I will miss her so much Because she is perfect!"
Ashley's adoption fee has been generously sponsored as part of our promotion spotlighting dogs rescued from our city shelter, Chicago Animal Care and Control.. This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
