Thomas in TN

Thomas is a handsome 13-month-old black and tan Dachshund mix with a smooth coat. He's a former breeder dog who is now learning what it's like to be a cherished pet. Thomas is eager to please and is already showing affection for his foster family. While he's still working on his house-training, he does use a doggie door and is crate trained. He absolutely loves toys and enjoys playing with other dogs, both male and female.

Ideal Home

Thomas needs a home with a securely fenced yard, as Dachshunds do enjoy barking. He would also benefit from a family that can be home most of the time to help him with his house-training. A well-socialized, young, small dog companion would be ideal for Thomas to play with and learn from. Due to their delicate backs and potential for nipping if startled or mishandled, Dachshunds are not recommended for families with children under 10 years old. This breed is also not suited for apartments, high-rises, or condos.

Ongoing Health

Thomas is up-to-date on all vaccinations, including DHPP and Rabies, and he is neutered. He receives monthly heartworm prevention.

Training & Support

Thomas is working on his house-training and leash skills. He is crate trained and uses a doggie door. He has not been extensively socialized, but he is young and eager to learn, so he should adapt quickly with patient guidance.
