Meet Magnolia, or Maggie as she's affectionately known. This sweet 2-year-old, approximately 50lb American Staffordshire Terrier mix (with maybe some Boxer in the mix!) was rescued just before Thanksgiving after being found tied to a light post in a park. She was found curled up, thin, dehydrated, and exhausted, but incredibly friendly. Maggie has blossomed beautifully over the past seven weeks in foster care, regaining her strength and filling out into a healthy, energetic young dog. Her skin infections have nearly resolved, her beautiful chocolate-brown coat is coming in beautifully, and she's learning to trust and love. Maggie is house-trained, crate-trained, and has adapted wonderfully to life in a pack, doing well with the resident dog. She is, however, not a good fit with cats. A professional trainer has been working with her on leash skills, and she's showing great progress. Maggie is a naturally social pup, friendly and affectionate, sometimes thinking she's a lap dog! She loves being part of the family and is happy to lounge on the couch or join you on outings. She's working on basic commands and impulse control, and while she has a prey drive for squirrels, she shows no reactivity towards people or other dogs.
Ideal Home
Maggie would thrive in an active home where she can get plenty of exercise and play. She would do best with a canine companion of similar size and energy. An owner with large-dog experience who is committed to providing structure and continuing her training would be ideal.
Ongoing Health
Maggie was treated for skin infections which have nearly fully resolved. She is up-to-date on shots and will be spayed and microchipped before adoption.
Training & Support
Maggie is house- and crate-trained and has good house manners. She is currently working on basic commands like "sit" and building impulse control. She has shown no signs of reactivity or resource guarding but does have a prey drive and is interested in small critters.
