Meet Toby, a 6-month-old, 26-pound Carolina-Corgi mix with a heart full of love and ears that can hear a treat bag opening from a mile away! Toby's journey began with a difficult start; he was found abandoned at a high-kill shelter with his mom. While his mom found her forever home quickly, Toby was left behind, feeling scared and alone. Thankfully, a wonderful foster family opened their hearts and home to him, giving him the second chance he so desperately deserved.
When Toby first entered foster care, the outside world was a bit overwhelming. New sounds and sights made him hesitant, and even stepping outside was a challenge. But with the guidance of his confident foster sisters, Toby began to explore. He learned by watching them, and now he happily ventures outside on a leash, enjoys playing with his canine siblings, and loves basking in the sun. Toby is a shy boy when meeting new people and needs time to adjust to new surroundings. Once he feels secure, though, he transforms into a devoted companion who will quietly shadow his favorite humans. He's calm, gentle, incredibly sweet, and a true team player – he doesn't resource guard and has excellent manners with other animals. Toby loves to relax by his foster sisters, whether it's lounging on a bookshelf, hiding under a desk, or simply being near his favorite pals. He currently lives harmoniously with six dogs and one cat and truly thrives in the company of other pets, finding reassurance and confidence in their presence. Because of this, a happy, confident, and playful dog in the home is a must for Toby. He trusts dogs more than humans, and a canine role model will help him continue to build his confidence and learn that the world is a safe and wonderful place. Toby is a very smart puppy and a quick learner, making progress every day. While he's okay around children, we believe he'd do best in a quieter home without young kids. He spends a lot of energy observing his surroundings to ensure everything is safe, so a calm environment will help him relax and gain confidence. After everything he's been through, Toby is understandably cautious. But for a family willing to offer patience, kindness, and time, Toby will repay you with unwavering loyalty and a bond that's truly special.
