Butter's journey has been one of overcoming incredible odds. She arrived at the shelter as a stray, likely having never experienced the comfort of a home or the warmth of human kindness. Initially terrified and shut down, Butter was facing a grim future due to overcrowding and limited resources. Thankfully, Libby and Mace's Place stepped in, offering her a second chance. In foster care, Butter has blossomed. She now enjoys the companionship of a canine sibling, delights in gentle pets, and has discovered the simple joy of napping on the couch. Butter is a dog who needs an adopter who will embrace her unique personality and support her continued growth. She is still quite fearful of people, particularly when they are standing or moving, and prefers to retreat or keep her head low when approached too quickly. Building trust with Butter is a process that requires patience, consistency, and allowing her to set the pace. Due to her apartment living situation, she is still learning to walk on a leash and is accustomed to using washable pee pads indoors. We are confident she can continue to progress in the right environment.
Ideal Home
Butter would thrive in a home with a secure 6-foot privacy fence, providing her a safe space to explore and build confidence. She is surprisingly athletic and has demonstrated the ability to clear baby gates, so secure containment is essential. A confident, friendly resident dog would be a wonderful asset, as Butter has integrated well with other dogs (male and female) after slow, respectful introductions. While she may initially growl or bare her teeth when scared, she consistently learns to trust and form bonds with canine companions when given space and understanding.
Ongoing Health
Butter is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. She is heartworm positive but is undergoing treatment with Advantage Multi, and our team will continue to provide her doses until she tests negative.
Training & Support
Butter is still learning basic commands and house-training skills. She is accustomed to using pee pads indoors and is not yet leash-trained. Consistent, patient guidance will be key to her continued progress.
