About Barkley Special Needs

Barkley is a wonderful young dog who came to us at just 8 weeks old with significant swelling in his back legs and from his mid-back to his tail. After extensive treatments and diagnostic testing, our veterinary team determined that Barkley has idiopathic lymphedema. This condition does not affect his ability to run and play, and he is a truly great boy! He absolutely loves other dogs but can be a bit too enthusiastic with cats. While he doesn't intend to harm them, his nearly 60-pound frame means he doesn't always realize his own size when trying to initiate play. Barkley is kennel-trained, walks nicely on a leash, and is gentle when taking treats. He was raised in a loving foster home and is ready for his forever family! If you're looking for a playful and loving companion, Barkley might be the perfect match for you.

Ideal Home

Barkley loves other dogs. He needs a home that understands he can be a bit boisterous with cats and can help him learn to manage his size during playtime.

Ongoing Health

Barkley has idiopathic lymphedema, a condition that causes swelling and is not treatable. However, this does not impact his ability to be active and playful.

Training & Support

Barkley is kennel-trained and walks well on a leash. He is gentle when taking treats. He needs a family who can help him learn to be gentler with cats due to his size.
