Meet Buttercup! This sweet 5-year-old, 14-pound Shih Tzu has a gentle personality that shines brighter each day as she learns the world can be safe and kind. Buttercup is highly food motivated, making her responsive during calm interactions and helping her build trust. She enjoys gentle affection and especially loves petting and belly rubs from those she trusts. Buttercup enjoys the company of other dogs and may benefit from a friendly, confident canine companion in her new home.

Ideal Home

Buttercup needs a patient adopter who will allow her to set the pace for new experiences and interactions. She thrives in a calm, consistent, and respectful environment where her boundaries are honored. Homes with older children can be a good fit, depending on temperament.

Ongoing Health

Buttercup has completed heartworm treatment and may require follow-up veterinary care.

Training & Support

Buttercup is still gaining confidence with leash walking and needs continued practice. She is sensitive to handling and does best with slow, gentle, and predictable interactions. Our behavior team is available to discuss handling techniques that can help her continue building confidence and trust. Many dogs in our care have had limited prior socialization and may need time, patience, and support as they adjust to home life. Skills such as house training and leash walking may require continued practice.
