About Atlas Moose the Floppy Eared Goober
Atlas Moose is the kind of puppy that makes you laugh within the first five minutes of meeting him. Maybe it's the giant floppy ears. Maybe it's the tail that's practically as long as the rest of him. Maybe it's the fact that he can somehow detect a treat from what feels like three zip codes away. Whatever it is, this boy has personality for days. He's goofy, happy, affectionate, and still very much figuring out how to navigate life with those oversized puppy feet attached to him. He's approximately 5 months old, currently weighs around 42 lbs, and we believe he may be a German Shepherd/Bloodhound mix. With rescue, it's always a mystery, and we can never guarantee breed or age. That said, between those giant ears, his impressive nose, and the way he can sniff out food, we'd be willing to bet there's some hound mixed in there somewhere. Atlas is still growing and has plenty of loose skin and big puppy feet left to fill out. He's essentially built like a baby moose! Atlas is exactly what you would hope for in a young puppy. He's sweet, loving, curious, playful, and always ready to have a good time. One minute he's bouncing around playing with a toy, and the next he's happily soaking up affection from his people. He has a wonderfully happy-go-lucky personality and approaches life with the enthusiasm that only a puppy can have. One of our favorite things about Atlas is that he's both a toy lover and a foodie. This boy loves treats and gets genuinely excited when snacks are involved. The good news is that his food motivation will make him a blast to continue training. He's eager to learn and already showing lots of potential. He also loves toys, especially balls. In fact, Atlas already knows how to play fetch and will happily bring the ball back to you again and again.
Ideal Home
Because Atlas is a growing puppy with typical puppy energy, we think he'd do best in a home with a backyard where he has room to run, play fetch, stretch those long legs, and burn off energy. He's going to need a family committed to training, socialization, and all the work that comes with raising a large breed puppy.
Ongoing Health
None noted in the description.
Training & Support
Atlas is working on crate training and is doing great learning where the appropriate potty places are. Like any puppy his age, he'll need continued consistency, routine, and structure as he grows. He's still very much a baby and is learning new things every day. The family that adopts him should be prepared to continue helping him learn how to be the best dog he can be. Atlas has met adult dogs and has done well with them. Like many puppies, he can come on a little strong at first. During introductions, he pulled hard to get to the other dogs and was a little pushy with his sniffing, but once greetings were over, he settled down nicely. What we really liked was that he listened when the other dogs communicated with him. If they moved away or asked for space, Atlas respected that and adjusted accordingly. He's still learning social skills, but he's already showing that he understands dog communication. We think Atlas could do well as an only dog or with another medium to large dog that enjoys playful puppy energy. He would probably love having a canine playmate to wrestle with, chase around the yard, and burn off some of that puppy enthusiasm.
