Meet Boots! This handsome shepherd/spitz mix, around 12-18 months old and weighing 50 pounds, is ready to find his forever family. Named for his adorable white-tipped paws and sporting a beautiful warm gray coat, Boots is still full of playful puppy energy and a whole lot of love to give.

Boots' journey began as a stray in Houston, TX, where he faced a grim fate due to shelter overcrowding. Initially terrified and avoidant, his chances were slim, but thankfully, he was given a second chance. With patience and love, he's slowly blossomed and is now thriving in his foster home in St. Paul, Minnesota, learning what it means to be a cherished house dog.

Ideal Home

Boots would thrive in a home with another confident dog who can help him navigate the world, though he could also be a wonderful only dog. He has previously been around cats without issue and, due to his gentle nature, may also do well with respectful children, given proper introductions and supervision. A securely fenced yard with plenty of enrichment will help him continue to flourish.

Training & Support

Boots is a smart, food-motivated learner who already knows "sit" just by observing his foster siblings! While he can be shy with new people at first, his patience will be rewarded with a sweet, gentle, and affectionate companion. He does sometimes show affection with playful nibbles, but he's learning to redirect this with chew toys and training. He'll need continued training, supervision, and structure to help him succeed as he continues to learn the rules of the house. He does have some prey drive toward small critters but settles nicely afterward.
