About Honey Bun

Honey Bun, affectionately known as "Bunny," "Bun-Bun," and "you're so cute," is a delightful mix of snuggle bug, comedian, and quirky queen! Our best guess at her breed mix is Golden Retriever and Cattle Dog. Her coat, the color of honey, perfectly matches her sweet disposition. She's on the smaller side, weighing in at 48 lbs.

Honey Bun's journey began with hardship; she was found abandoned on a country road, waiting faithfully for her owners for two weeks. When rescued, she was understandably shut down, too scared to walk, ride in a car, or even move. Through time and consistent trust-building, she began to blossom, only to face displacement again when her rescuer could no longer keep her. This led her to us, where she's truly thriving!

We had to restart her journey to confidence. Initially, she was hesitant and easily overwhelmed by the world. Today, she's incredibly courageous, but we understand there's a possibility of a slight regression in a new environment. That's why finding her perfect, patient forever home is so important. In her foster home, with encouragement, a pack of five patient resident dogs, and plenty of treats, she transformed. The dog who once froze on walks now bounds with excitement. Doorways, once a challenge, are now easily navigated, and the scary garage door noises are no longer an issue. What you'll get is "Honey 2.0" – a happy, hilarious character who seems to smile all day. She's highly food-motivated (carrots and ice are a hit!) and endlessly entertaining as she burrowed into couch cushions. Her signature move on walks? Spotting another dog and transforming into a pogo stick – it’s a sight to behold!

If you're looking for a velcro dog who will be your constant companion, curl up close on the sofa, and melt into gentle affection, Honey is your girl. She's sensitive, deeply loving, and thrives with patience, a calm presence, and an owner who appreciates a dog with a unique personality. She does well with other dogs and absolutely loves to play.

Ideal Home

Honey is shy and nervous at first, so slow introductions are recommended. She is not a good fit for a home with young children, but she does fantastic with older kids and enjoys their attention.

Ongoing Health

Honey Bun has no known ongoing health conditions.

Training & Support

Honey Bun is house-trained, rarely barks, and knows basic commands like "sit," "no," and "treats." She's very eager to please. Confidence was her biggest hurdle, and she's already overcome the hardest part. She thrives with gentle and patient guidance; raised voices will cause her to shut down.
