About Amaretto
Meet Amaretto
Like the aperitif she's named for, Amaretto is not a one-note experience. She opens sweet — warmly, eagerly, with the kind of bright energy that fills a room the moment she walks in. Then come the deeper notes: the marzipan richness of her loyalty (that's her Chihuahua side showing), the vanilla warmth of the bond she builds with the people she loves, the caramel depth of a dog who is, at her core, all heart. And yes — there's a subtle bitterness underneath, the edge that makes her interesting.
And here's the thing: she looks the part too. Amaretto's tricolor coat — jet black, warm caramel tan, and crisp vanilla white — is a living, breathing version of her flavor profile. The dark notes, the warmth, the brightness. She didn't just get the name. She earned it.
Her loyalty, once given, is absolute. She takes her inner circle seriously — new faces get a structured introduction, and she appreciates a leash and a little patience upfront. But once you've earned her trust? That's it. You have it for life, and it runs deep in a way that only a dog like Amaretto can deliver.
Don't let the intensity fool you — Amaretto has a deeply silly side that comes out in full force with the people she loves most. One minute she's laser-focused on a training session; the next, she's flopped on her back soliciting belly rubs with absolutely zero shame. She is, in the best possible way, a contradiction.
At home, she is a dream. Fully house-trained, fully crate-trained — and not just tolerates it, but walks herself in on her own terms, which tells you everything about her confidence and her comfort. On leash, she's a pleasure: walks beautifully, takes in her surroundings, and makes every outing feel easy. She has done the work, and it shows.
With other dogs, Amaretto is in her element. She loves a good rough-and-tumble play session — the kind that leaves both parties breathless and ready for a nap — and she reads her playmates well. A young, active, well-socialized dog in the home isn't just a nice-to-have for her; it's the thing that helps her burn the energy her body and brain are constantly producing. She will be a phenomenal playmate for the right canine companion.
Amaretto genuinely loves kids — that warmth is real and it shows. That said, we think she'd be happiest in a home with teenagers rather than younger children. Not because she can't handle them, but because she deserves people who can read her cues, give her space when she asks for it, and meet her on her own terms. Teenagers who respect a dog's boundaries? She will absolutely adore them. She is seeking a foster-to-adopt home, and we are fully confident in her transition to the right family.
Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Neutered and microchipped. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available.
Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue.
