Chico Diablo is a stunning black and tan Doberman with cropped ears and a docked tail. He's lean, muscular, and athletic, enjoying playtime with balls and spending time outdoors. Chico is affectionate and a bit clingy with his foster family, always pushing for attention. He's crate-trained and sleeps soundly in his crate at night. He's also leash-trained and knows basic commands, responding well to verbal cues. Chico came to rescue after a difficult time, grieving the loss of his home and feeling confused at the shelter. He was initially "nippy," using his teeth gently to create space when his collar was grabbed, which indicated to his rescuers a history of rough handling. With patience and a secure, well-fitted tactical collar, Chico has learned to trust again and is now building confidence. He's sensitive to yelling and not a dominant personality.
Ideal Home
Chico would thrive in a home that can provide him with affection and a safe space to exercise, preferably with a fenced-in yard. A home with another medium to large, female dog would be comforting for him, but it's not a requirement. Due to his sensitivity to having his collar grabbed, we do not recommend a home with small children, as his self-protective reactions could unintentionally scare or harm a child. He is not tested with cats or small animals.
Ongoing Health
Chico has been neutered, is up to date on vaccines, has been treated for heartworm, and is on prevention. He has reached a healthy weight, has a shiny coat, and is motivated by food.
Training & Support
Chico is house-trained, crate-trained, and leash-trained. He responds well to verbal commands. While he has a history of reacting to having his collar pulled or grabbed, he has been working on this with his foster family. His rescuers recommend confident owners who can establish clear boundaries for his safety. Muzzling during vet visits with strangers may be beneficial, and it's important to be mindful of who is around him. Due to his reactions to other larger male dogs, dog parks are not recommended, and a home with another male dog is not advised.
