Lucky is a senior dog who is about 11 years old and is looking for a patient and understanding home. While he may initially act a bit tough, this is just his way of protecting himself due to his timidity. What Lucky truly desires is a loving human to cherish him. Despite his tough-guy act, he's a tiny 5-pound chihuahua with only two teeth! He needs a family who understands the "chihuahua language" to appreciate his unique personality.
Lucky's previous owner had to move into a nursing home, and his family couldn't keep him. He was on his way to a high-kill shelter when we stepped in to help. Lucky's biggest challenge, like many male chihuahuas, is his tendency to mark. He does enjoy going outside for potty breaks, especially if it's not too cold, but he's not keen on extended outdoor stays. He is comfortable using a pee pad, though he occasionally misses. He may also mark vertical surfaces, so frequent potty breaks and the use of belly bands at home are recommended.
Lucky is a bit on the thin side, so his new family must ensure he eats high-quality, nutritious food. He would also do well in a home with another small chihuahua companion for company and naps. Lucky has been neutered, recently had a dental cleaning, is up-to-date on vaccinations, is heartworm negative, and is microchipped.
Lucky is searching for a family that is fully committed to him for the long haul, understanding that dogs can live to be 25 years old.
