A little about them
Arthur is a 12-year-old, 18-pound neutered male Pug Mix looking for a patient home where he can enjoy a peaceful retirement. He is chill, calm, quiet, shy, and cuddly. Arthur loves napping and snuggling with people or calm dogs, and is happiest indoors. He was rescued from a hoarding situation with over 50 dogs and is learning to feel comfortable in the outside world.
Ideal Home
Arthur does well with calm dogs of all sizes and currently lives with four other dogs. Cats and children have not been tested; he would prefer older, calm children who respect his boundaries. He needs a patient adopter who can give him time to warm up to new people and situations. He is nervous outdoors and on leash, and may hide under the sofa when visitors arrive, but becomes cuddly once he feels safe.
Ongoing Health
Arthur lost most of his teeth before coming into care, and his remaining teeth were extracted after an oral exam. He is now toothless and no longer experiencing constant oral pain. He has a grade 2/6 heart murmur, Grade 3 luxating patellas, and corneal scarring in both eyes, with more severe scarring in the left eye. He has at least some vision, and no treatment is currently recommended for the corneal scarring. Surgery is not considered viable for his luxating patellas. He takes Cosequin and should be monitored for signs of pain. An echocardiogram is recommended to learn more about his heart murmur and before future anesthesia, and his adopter should follow up with their primary veterinarian for further recommendations.
Training & Support
Arthur has a low energy level, does not play much, and has not yet played with toys. He is working on potty training and uses a consistent place. He rides well in a car and is peaceful at home, so he does not need to be crated. He needs continued patience and basic training as he acclimates to new experiences.
