Flora, a 3-year-old Carolina Dog mix weighing 46 pounds, is a playful and energetic sweetheart looking for her forever family. Affectionately known as Flora, Flory, Lory, or Sweetpea, she absolutely loves to play wrestle and engage in games of chase. She has experience with dogs of various sizes and would do best in a home with a canine companion of similar energy levels. Flora is a total love bug and enjoys snuggling up for some quality cuddle time. She also enjoys car rides, sunbathing, and birdwatching.
Ideal Home
Flora would thrive in a moderately active home where her person is often around and enjoys outdoor activities like walks, jogs, and playing fetch. An owner who will continue her positive reinforcement training and help her build confidence will be key to her happiness. A home with no other pets or a well-balanced dog of similar age, size, and energy level would be ideal. While she adores the 8-year-old child in her foster home, she can be nervous around new children. Due to some stranger danger and nervousness with new people, an adult household might be best for her at this time. She is terrified of storms and will seek comfort in a closet or with her people.
Ongoing Health
Flora is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations. She has demonstrated some anxiety in a crate at home, but does well when boarded. She is fed separately from other dogs in the household.
Training & Support
Flora has shown some leash reactivity, which her foster parents have been working on with positive reinforcement. She needs consistent training to improve her leash skills and build confidence around new dogs and stimuli. She gets easily spooked and tends to pull on the leash, but walks much better in calm environments. Flora is housebroken and has no issues being unsupervised outside of a crate at home. She has a tendency to bark at new people entering the home, especially if they move quickly. While she shares her toys well and is generally good with people and food, she sometimes needs reminders to take treats gently.
