A little about them
Meet Mikey, a brave approximately two-year-old Chihuahua mix who weighs around 14 pounds. After surviving on the streets in Texas and losing his left eye in an attack, Mikey remains a loving cuddle bug who adores people, pets, treats, and snuggles.
Ideal Home
Mikey is good with children and can live with other small dogs. He may grumble initially, but adjusts well once he feels safe. He needs a local-to-Wapakoneta family who understands that his back is sensitive and can handle him gently.
Ongoing Health
Mikey is currently heartworm positive. The rescue will cover treatment at Auglaize Animal Hospital in Wapakoneta until he tests negative, with retesting after one year. Once he tests negative, the rescue will also cover his neuter. Mikey has IVDD and takes gabapentin daily to manage discomfort.
Training & Support
Mikey does well with potty training when taken outside frequently and kept on a routine. When lifting him, he must be gently cradled and properly supported. Incorrect handling may cause him to nip in response to pain, but he is content being scooped up once handled correctly. He is up to date on vaccinations.
