Meet Iris! This sweet girl is approximately 3.5 years old and is a Shepherd/Black Mouth Cur mix, weighing in at a compact 47 pounds. Iris was rescued from a high-kill shelter along with her siblings, and she's the last one still waiting for her loving forever home. She's fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed, ready to embark on her new life!
Iris is a goofy, playful, and affectionate soul, but she’s a bit selective about who gets to see that side of her. She thrives with patient and understanding humans who appreciate a "slow burn" to a deep connection. Once she trusts you, she is completely devoted! She would be a wonderful companion for someone working from home and would truly blossom in a quieter environment, perhaps with access to trails and open spaces, away from the hustle and bustle of busy city streets. Her absolute favorite pastime is a game of fetch with a tennis ball!
Ideal Home
Iris would do best in an adult-only home. She hasn't been around young children, and her fear-based reactivity means she needs a calm environment where her boundaries can be respected. A quieter lifestyle with access to nature, like trails or open spaces, would be ideal.
Ongoing Health
Iris is up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed.
Training & Support
Iris is fully potty trained and crate trained; her crate is her safe haven. She can be dog-selective and requires slow, intentional introductions. While she has learned to build friendships with other dogs in her foster home, play works best when food and toys are kept separate. She exhibits some food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs, so separate feeding is recommended if she is in a multi-dog household. On leash, she can be reactive to dogs that get too close, so her ideal owner will be skilled at creating distance and setting her up for success.
