Meet Ernie, a charming 8-year-old Pittie/Cattle Dog mix who weighs around 63lbs. He's a neutered male with a heart full of love and a tail that never stops wagging! Ernie was found wandering a busy street and, despite being microchipped, his previous owner chose not to reclaim him. He was clearly cherished once, as he's HW- and friendly with everyone. Now, he's in a loving foster home in Houston, TX, eagerly awaiting his forever family.
Ernie is a wonderfully goofy and chill gentleman who still gets excited for walks and playtime. He has a remarkable history of getting along with every human and animal he's encountered. He greets other dogs with enthusiastic tail wags, hoping for a chance to play. He's a gentle companion who enjoys being part of the group and goes with the flow, even letting his smaller foster sibling, an Aussie, take the lead. While he hasn't formally met cats, he shows a curious but not aggressive interest, suggesting he might do well with feline friends who are tolerant of a friendly hello. Ernie has no experience with children, but his gentle nature makes his foster believe he would be a wonderful addition to a family, as long as they understand he's a larger dog.
Ideal Home
Ernie would be happy in a variety of homes! He's a great fit for a home with children, with or without other pets, or even for first-time dog owners.
Ongoing Health
Ernie is heartworm negative.
Training & Support
Ernie is house-trained and walks beautifully on a leash. He is not a fan of crates and will attempt to escape, but he doesn't exhibit destructive behavior when left unsupervised. If left in a crate while you're home, he may whine or howl briefly, but can be soothed with treats or gentle verbal commands. He is a social dog who loves to follow his people from room to room and cherishes being right by your side.
