Meet Colt, a handsome 12-year-old, 45 lb Norwegian Elkhound/Spitz-type mix with a touch of Shepherd charm! Colt and his companion Sheila were surrendered when their beloved owner passed away. While initially thought to be 11, Colt's bright eyes, energetic spirit, and surprisingly good teeth suggest he might be even younger than his years! He's a fluffball eager to bond, loves adventures, pets, and cuddles. Colt is a responsive boy who thrives on positive reinforcement and excited praise. He's making great progress with recall training and enjoys playing in water, be it streams, ponds, or kiddie pools. His unique longer body and short legs give him a character all his own!
Ideal Home
Colt would thrive in a home that understands and can provide consistent engagement. He's friendly, affectionate, and people-oriented, but also independent when needed. While he's good with children and other dogs, he is not a good fit for homes with cats or small animals. Due to his northern breed tendencies, a very tall, secure, non-climbable fence is required, or leash-only exercise until a strong bond and reliable recall are established.
Ongoing Health
Colt has no specific health conditions mentioned.
Training & Support
Colt is house-trained and generally good on leash, though he is still working on loose-leash walking. He has a tendency to be vocal and enjoys "singing." He also has escape tendencies, especially with low, climbable, or unsecured fencing. Consistent engagement and continuing his recall training with positive reinforcement will be key to his success.
