About SWEET RUTH
MEET RUTHIE — A GENTLE, CLUMSY GIRL LOOKING FOR HER PERSON Ruthie is a beautiful 1.5–2-year-old, 59 lb. yellow dog with a heart of gold. She looks like she may have some Anatolian Shepherd or Boxer in her mix, but her personality is pure gentle giant, reminiscent of a Great Dane or Great Pyrenees. Ruthie is steady, loyal, and happiest when she's near her people. She enjoys short bursts of playful energy followed by long, peaceful naps. Ruthie came into rescue after bravely surviving on her own for several months. Because of her past, she can be cautious in new situations, so she needs an adopter who understands that building trust may take a little time. Once she bonds, though, she does so deeply. In her foster home, Ruthie has blossomed into a loving, relaxed companion who is very attached to her person. She is house-trained, quiet, gentle when taking treats, and has never had an accident. Ruthie loves hiking, visiting dog parks, patrolling for squirrels, and playing in the mud and water, all before settling down for a good nap. She has a sweet, clumsy play style, sometimes seeming to be figuring out where all her legs are supposed to go! Ruthie is wonderful with other dogs, playing gently with friends of all sizes. She's also easy and gentle with children, greeting them with the same soft, cautious curiosity she shows new adults. While she would likely enjoy having a confident dog friend, her greatest wish is for a person or family to call her own. Ruthie is not a dog who would thrive being left alone all day with limited interaction, so a work-from-home adopter, an active household, or a home with another friendly dog would be a great fit.
Ideal Home
Ruthie would thrive in a home with a patient and confident adopter who understands that cautious dogs can become the most devoted companions. A fenced yard is strongly preferred to help her feel secure during her transition. While not a dealbreaker, another friendly dog of any size or disposition would be a plus. A work-from-home adopter or an active family is ideal.
Ongoing Health
Ruthie has no known ongoing health conditions.
Training & Support
Because Ruthie is smart, strong, and resourceful, her forever family should be prepared to use extra safety precautions during the transition period. We recommend a martingale collar, a double leash setup, and an AirTag or GPS collar until she is fully settled and bonded. Ruthie is not difficult, she just needs someone thoughtful, patient, and confident enough to help her feel safe.
