About Gingersnap

Gingersnap, aka Ginger or Gingey, is a hilariously spunky and utterly adorable 9-year-old, 9lb Pekingese mix. She was found as a stray in Houston and, having clearly had puppies, likely didn't have an easy start. We rescued her from the city shelter and she's been a joy ever since! Ginger is a friendly, confident girl with a low to medium energy level. She's playful with most dogs, especially other small, young pups, and has a particular soft spot for one of her foster siblings! She's potty trained, crate trained, great in the car, and walks well on leash. She considers her crate her zen den, happily using it for naps and at night. She's shown no signs of separation anxiety. Her exercise needs are pretty low-key, enjoying neighborhood strolls and bursts of zoomies with her doggy friends.

Ideal Home

Ginger would thrive in a home with another very playful small dog, as she enjoys both vigorous play and quiet relaxation. Her adopter should be committed to continuing basic command training for her safety. While she's a confident girl who could do well in many home environments, a home without young children would be best due to her tendency to be startled.

Ongoing Health

Gingersnap is currently undergoing heartworm treatment, and she will be ready to go to her forever home in September.

Training & Support

Ginger is generally well-behaved but can let out a little shriek if startled. She has become less reactive to being startled as she's settled into her foster home. Continuing basic command training will be beneficial for her safety and confidence.
