Frank-e and Chimmey are a bonded pair of brothers looking for their forever home! Frank-e is 5 years old and weighs 10.3 lbs, while Chimmey is 3 years old and weighs 13.3 lbs. Frank-e is a black and tan dappled piebald with a long coat, and Chimmey is a black and tan dapple, also with a long coat. They came to us from Kentucky when their previous family found that the boys were not doing well with very young children. These two truly are brothers from another mother and are inseparable.
Frank-e can be sensitive to loud noises like firecrackers and sirens, and he's not a fan of the rain. He loves to burrow under blankets and enjoys squeaky toys. Chimmey, on the other hand, loves the snow and absolutely adores belly rubs. He's very food-motivated and enjoys running around with other dogs, though he's not as interested in toys as he is in his brother, Frank-e. Both boys take a little time to warm up but blossom into confident companions once they feel secure. A doggie door would be a wonderful addition to their new home, as they both enjoy having that freedom.
Ideal Home
These boys need a home with a fenced yard and would greatly benefit from a doggie door. They would do best in a home where someone can be present more often than not. Due to their breed, apartments, high-rises, or condos are not suitable as Dachshunds can be prone to barking. They can live with children over the age of 10 who understand and respect a dog's space. They are good with other male and female dogs but cannot be in a home with cats.
Ongoing Health
Frank-e recently had a dental procedure where he lost 16 teeth. Chimmey had a clean dental, but a couple of his teeth may need to be addressed at his next dental in about a year. Regular yearly dental check-ups are important for small mouths. Both boys are up-to-date on all vaccinations (DHPP and Rabies) and receive monthly heartworm prevention.
Training & Support
Both Frank-e and Chimmey are house-trained, crate-trained, and leash-trained. However, Chimmey does tend to pull on the leash. They both take a little time to warm up to new people and situations, so patience and understanding will be key.
