About MAXIMUS

Maximus, an 8-year-old, 31.2lb Tri-Color mixed breed, is a sweet and goofy boy who has been in foster care for over a year. His DNA reveals a fascinating blend of 15 breeds, with Norwegian Elkhound and Chihuahua making up the largest percentages. Maximus is house-trained, neutered, and loves a good belly rub, frozen pup cup, and car rides. He also enjoys walks and exploring, especially if it involves sniffing out new scents. His dream is to be with his person always, whether that's cuddling on the couch or exploring the outdoors.

Ideal Home

Maximus would do best in a quiet, single-family home away from busy streets. He's not suited for condos, townhouses, or multi-family housing due to his sensitive hearing and anxiety. Homes with young children are also not a good fit, as their natural exuberance can escalate his anxiety. He would benefit from a home where his person is around a lot. If his person must leave, a calm, doggy companion who tolerates his anxiety would be ideal to help comfort him. He also doesn't like being surprised by people appearing suddenly, such as drive-thru workers or people at the front door.

Ongoing Health

Maximus deals with high anxiety and separation anxiety, which is exacerbated by his sensitive hearing. These sensitivities can lead to barking, whining, and pacing until the cause of his anxiety is removed or he is comforted.

Training & Support

Maximus thrives on routine. While house-trained, he may need gentle guidance to manage his anxiety in new situations. He enjoys walks and could benefit from consistent exercise like running on quiet trails to help alleviate his anxiety. He gets along well with other dogs and enjoys attention from people, but he can be startled by unexpected encounters.
