Captain Cap is a 2-year-old neutered male Bloodhound with a heart full of love and a nose that's always on the trail of adventure! He's a big boy with a gentle soul, though he doesn't quite realize his own strength, making him a wonderful companion for families with older children (13 years and up). Cap has zero prey drive and no aggression, but his playful nature means he could accidentally startle smaller animals. He's a big fan of walks, tug toys, and bones, and he absolutely adores a good run, especially on a nature trail. Prepare for some happy slobber – it's part of his charm! Cap is a "man's dog" and tends to bond more closely with male primary caretakers, especially those with dog training experience. He's also reported to be great with cats, as he respects their space and doesn't bother them.
Ideal Home
Captain Cap needs a large, securely fenced yard to explore and get his zoomies out. He would thrive in an active home with a male primary caretaker who has dog training experience. While he adores children, he needs to be in a home with older kids (13+) due to his size and exuberance. A playful dog of similar size would be a great addition to his life, but he should not be in a home with small dogs.
Ongoing Health
Captain Cap has a chicken allergy. Feeding him chicken products can lead to yeast infections and skin issues. He currently eats Purina One Wild Instinct Venison & Turkey, which is the only food he will eat and is affordable.
Training & Support
Cap needs a home that understands he can be a bit of a chewer when unsupervised. He must be kenneled when left alone to prevent him from chewing on household items, particularly remotes. He's not a fan of his nails being clipped, and it's best accomplished with lots of rib scratches while the task is being done.
