Rufus

Rufus is a 5-year-old, 65lb Poodle mix who has blossomed in his foster home, reaching many exciting milestones! He's a smart, athletic, and fast learner who thrives on praise, which helps him redirect when he's overstimulated. Rufus is a sweet and sensitive boy who enjoys routine. He loves a game of fetch, though he's still mastering the "give" part, and enjoys adventures and walks. He can be a little nervous around new people but is an absolute love bug once he feels comfortable. While he enjoys meeting new people outside the home, he'll need an experienced adopter to help him manage his "stranger danger" when visitors come to his house. He walks well on a leash and is eager to please.

Ideal Home

Rufus would do best in a home without children and with an experienced adopter who can help him manage his initial nervousness around new people.

Ongoing Health

Rufus is up to date on vaccinations and monthly preventatives, neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped.

Training & Support

Rufus's foster has found "pattern games" on walks to be helpful in distracting him in new or noisy situations. Consistency, training, and love are key to his continued growth. He loves apples and brush time! He prefers petting on his sides rather than his head and is gaining bravery daily. Rufus is dog selective but does well with the cat in his foster home.

• Our evaluative process includes a vet reference check (all resident dogs must be altered/up to date on dhpp/rabies and monthly preventatives) and a virtual home visit.

Transporation

Rufus is located in our foster program and can be transported to our facility in St. Louis, MO, or our Illinois facility. Transport is available.
