Lucy Dawson

Lucy, born around May 20, 2013, and weighing about 22 pounds, is a sweet, loving, senior Beagle with a crotchety charm that brings laughter every day. She came to us through dog control, and when we took in a younger Beagle named Lottie, we couldn't leave Lucy behind! She took a couple of days to feel at home, but the first sign of her realizing she was safe and loved was when she jumped into her foster dad's lap. Lucy enjoys the company of other dogs but would likely be content as an only dog or with gentle canine companions; a rambunctious puppy might be a bit much for her. We assume she has normal Beagle wanderlust, so she will need to live in a safe environment.

Lucy would thrive in a home where her needs can be catered to, similar to the care she receives now.

Ongoing Health

Lucy has definitive hearing loss and walks with a stiff-legged gait due to arthritis, which would be helped by daily anti-inflammatory medication like Rimadyl. She has normal age-related cloudiness in her eyes, but her sight is adequate for now. Her teeth are very dirty, and while a dental cleaning is planned, another may be needed in the future. She also has crinkled cartilage in her ear flaps, likely from previous untreated ear infections.

Training & Support

Lucy has adjusted well to her foster home and enjoys co-mingling with other dogs. No specific training needs were mentioned beyond ensuring she's in a safe environment due to her breed's wanderlust.
