JJ Ryder is a solid, athletic, and loyal companion who is always ready for an adventure. At about 4 years old and 75 lbs, he's the kind of dog who looks naturally right by your side. JJ lives for the outdoors, whether it's long hikes, fetch marathons, or boat rides. Tennis balls are a must, and he's always eager to go when shoes come out! After a day of activity, he's just as happy to relax with some couch snuggles or quietly observe. He forms quick bonds with men and thrives on calm, confident leadership, responding exceptionally well to structure. JJ is smart, calm, and tuned in, already knowing a good set of commands, and is gentle-lead trained and comes when called. He's been fostered with a couple and tends to focus his attention on the man of the house. While his foster mom works from home, JJ patiently stays at her feet or nearby, eagerly awaiting his favorite person's return. He handles Home Depot trips and neighborhood walks with ease and isn't bothered by loud trucks, motorcycles, thunder, or fireworks. JJ alerts to new people or dogs and then settles, drawing his confidence from his person. He's fully potty and crate trained, respectful of space, not destructive, and doesn't resource guard. He sleeps quietly through the night, is affectionate without being pushy, and loyal without being clingy – simply a great dog. JJ currently enjoys the company of a large male Lab and a playful small dog, but he would also be content as a solo pet. He's best suited for an adult home or one with calm older teens. Due to his prey drive, a cat-free home is ideal. JJ is steady, not complicated, and perfectly suited for someone looking for a best friend and adventure-ready companion.
