Dagger

Dagger is a 6.5-month-old (estimated DOB January 2026), spayed female Retriever/Pit Bull mix who currently weighs 40 pounds and is expected to be a large dog when fully grown. She is being fostered in Houston, Texas. Dagger is a fearless little lady with a heart full of cuddles, looking for her forever home. She was rescued from the woods with her mother and littermates during a Texas freeze, and has since grown up loved and cared for. Dagger is named for the dagger-shaped marking on her neck, and she's traded her shark-puppy teeth for sweet love nibbles. She has a playful energy but is settling into being a wonderful companion. Dagger is potty trained and is growing into a confident, affectionate, and well-rounded dog. She is equal parts athlete and cuddle bug, loving to leap and climb, but also adores curling up in her person's lap. She approaches life with curiosity and confidence and is the social butterfly of her litter. Dagger is playful, loving, mischievous, and incredibly affectionate, the perfect blend of adventurous spirit and loyal companion. She is friendly with strangers, enjoys playing with other dogs, and has been around children with no issues.

Ideal Home

Dagger is looking for a family committed to reinforcing good manners, building her confidence, and helping her continue to mature into an exceptional adult dog. Ongoing positive reinforcement, consistency, and continued leash practice will help her thrive. She's a talented escape artist, so future families should be aware of this. We prefer homes where someone isn't routinely away for more than four to six hours at a time.

Training & Support

Dagger is still an adolescent and learning about the world. Continued socialization is important, and we prefer homes that already have another friendly, well-mannered dog to help mentor and guide her. If you don't currently have a dog, we'd love to hear your plan for continued socialization, which might include structured training classes, regular playdates with trusted dogs, supervised daycare, or other safe opportunities for positive canine interaction. Ongoing positive reinforcement, consistency, and continued leash practice will help her thrive.

Transporation

Dagger is currently located in Houston, Texas. Transport to an approved adopter is included in the adoption donation and is arranged by the rescue. Transports run every few weeks.
