About Chico Diablo

Chico Diablo is a stunning black and tan Doberman with cropped ears and a docked tail. He's lean, muscular, and athletic, enjoying playtime with balls and outdoor activities. Chico is affectionate and clingy with his foster family, always seeking attention. He's crate-trained, sleeps soundly in his crate overnight, and is leash-trained, responding well to verbal commands. This sweet and spicy Doberman is a wonderful family pet ready to thrive in the right home. He would appreciate a fenced-in yard for exercise and can be comforted by the presence of another medium to large female dog, though it's not a requirement. Chico came to rescue with some baggage, initially grieving the loss of his home and feeling confused at the shelter. He was noted to be "nippy" and would avoid petting, using his teeth to ask for space when his collar was grabbed. After being given time to decompress in a home environment with slow introductions and a secure tactical collar, Chico has become trusting of people. He would need confident owners who can establish clear boundaries for his safety. Chico is sensitive to yelling and is not a dominant personality. He was surrendered with another Doberman after his family passed away. Initially, the two male Dobermans did not get along, and Chico was fearful, backing up and growling. He has since been introduced to confident female dogs for playtime and is gentle and playful with them. However, he does "fence fight" with other male dogs, and due to this repeated reaction, dog parks or a home with another male dog are not recommended. Chico was underweight when he arrived at the rescue due to stress but is now at a healthy weight with a shiny coat and is food-motivated.

Ideal Home

Chico would thrive in a home with a securely fenced-in yard. Due to his reactivity to having his collar pulled or grabbed, we do not recommend a home with small children to ensure everyone's safety. He is not recommended for homes with other male dogs or for places like dog parks due to fence-fighting behavior.

Ongoing Health

Chico is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, heartworm treated, and on prevention.

Training & Support

Chico is crate-trained, house-trained, and leash-trained. He responds well to verbal commands. He may bark at noises, alarms, sirens, and people outside of his property. Owners should be mindful of who is around him and may consider using a muzzle during vet visits with strangers.
