Lazaro

Lázaro is a sweet 6–7-year-old male Schnauzer mix, weighing around 19 lbs. He has a calm and gentle demeanor, preferring a quiet presence. Lázaro is comfortable sleeping in an open crate and can stay in it for short periods without issue, showing good crate manners. He's a social butterfly who gets along well with other dogs, children, men, and women. He even coexists peacefully with chickens and roosters! Lázaro enjoys affection but isn't overly clingy; he's an independent companion who appreciates calm love and gentle attention. He's generally tranquil and easygoing, making him a wonderful match for a relaxed household. Lázaro's unique physical characteristics include one small, non-vision eye and a few missing teeth. Despite these differences, he is healthy, pain-free, and lives a perfectly normal life. He enjoys walks, is non-aggressive, and while he might bark and act tough sometimes, it's all talk with no aggression. Lázaro was abandoned for being considered "old" and "different," but he's proof that true beauty comes from the heart. He's ready for a family who will cherish his calm nature, resilience, and quiet loyalty.

Ideal Home

Lázaro would thrive in a home with a fenced backyard. He would do best in a family that enjoys outdoor activities and has a genuine intention to rescue a dog, understanding the need for protection and education for street animals. Experience with dog behavior and training, or a willingness to hire a trainer, is highly recommended. A high tolerance and patience for rescued animals are essential.

Ongoing Health

Lázaro is healthy and pain-free. He has one eye that is congenital and without vision, and he is missing a few teeth. These conditions do not limit him in any way. His health protocol includes being spayed/neutered, vaccinated (DHPPI, Rabies, Bordetella), dewormed, microchipped, tested for 4DX and heartworm (negative results), and he is on monthly preventive protection (Nexgard Spectra). He also has a health certificate and vaccine booklet.

Training & Support

Lázaro can be a bit protective of his food, so basic boundaries during feeding time are recommended. It's important to remember that rescued dogs may need an adjustment period and can have fears or anxieties due to past experiences. Patience, understanding, providing a safe and loving environment, and establishing a routine are crucial for helping him adapt and build trust. It is noted that he is not house-trained.

Transportation

Lázaro is currently being fostered in Saltillo, Mexico, and is ready to travel to the East Coast on a cross-country trip if adopted. Transportation is available for an additional fee of $400 USD, which covers door-to-door delivery. This includes scheduled trips with a partnered transport company, all necessary legal and health paperwork, and real-time updates during the journey. A final home review will be conducted upon delivery.
