Cricket and Mochi, a bonded pair of sweet, gentle, and loving girls, have overcome so much and are finally ready for a forever home—together. These resilient pups were part of a heartbreaking surrender of 10 dogs to a small rural Texas shelter when their owner entered a nursing home. After multiple surgeries, dentals, and lots of TLC, these brave little ladies are now healthy, comfortable, and ready for their forever home—always together.
Cricket is a 8+ year old, 13 lb Chihuahua. She is a gentle, sensitive soul who has overcome so much. She arrived with a large hernia and a damaged eye—both now successfully treated. Today, she's finally living pain-free. She's shy at first, but once she trusts you, she melts into soft affection and belly rubs. Cricket leans on Mochi for confidence, and their bond is truly something special. Cricket loves bully sticks and prefers shredded chicken mixed with kibble.
Mochi is a 7+ year old, 14 lb Wire-Haired Terrier Mix. Mochi may have a permanently grumpy little face, but underneath that is a calm, affectionate cuddle bug. She's the confident half of this duo and quietly watches over Cricket. Mochi had several masses removed—all benign—and while she may develop more in the future, she is currently happy and feeling great. She also has a heart murmur and although on medication is asymptomatic. Mochi loves frozen Kongs and is great on leash.
Ideal Home
These girls are looking for a calm, stable home where they can continue to thrive together. They require a fenced yard, and are not suitable for apartment living as Cricket is still building leash confidence. Ideally, they would not be placed in a home with small children. They are dog-friendly and would prefer calm, respectful dogs. They are 90% housebroken, with Mochi being slower to catch on. They are crate trained.
Ongoing Health
Mochi has a heart murmur and is on medication, but is currently asymptomatic. She also had several masses removed that were all benign, and may develop more in the future. Cricket had a large hernia and a damaged eye, both of which have been successfully treated.
Training & Support
Cricket is still building leash confidence and would benefit from a home without apartments. Mochi is slower to catch on with housebreaking.
