Meet the cutest little house hippo your heart never knew it was missing — Blueberry Toaster Strudel. 💙 Strudel's story is equal parts heartbreaking and inspiring. For more than six months, she survived completely on her own on the streets of Detroit. Her safe place was beneath the porch of an abandoned home, where she lived in survival mode every single day. If a person came near, she ran. If danger appeared, she disappeared. Trust wasn't an option when simply making it to tomorrow was the goal. During that time, Strudel gave birth to puppies beneath that same porch. Thankfully, a rescue was able to secure her babies, but Strudel remained behind, continuing to fend for herself through the seasons. Then came a bitterly cold night in December when we received a call asking for help. After several days of learning her routine and earning just enough trust, we were finally able to get her to safety. Truthfully, we didn't know what to expect. Would she always be fearful? Would she become defensive now that she could no longer run away? Had life on the streets changed her forever? The answer surprised all of us. The moment Strudel realized she was safe, she transformed into the biggest love bug imaginable. Today, she's a professional couch potato, champion cuddler, and full-time personal space invader. She absolutely adores people and wants nothing more than to be as close to her humans as physically possible. She's crate trained, completely potty trained, and has never had a single accident in foster care. On her very first day, we asked her to sit—and she did it immediately. It was clear that before life failed her, someone had loved her. She loves toys, treats, belly rubs, and collecting admirers everywhere she goes.
Ideal Home

Ongoing Health
Strudel has completed heartworm treatment. She has an old injury to her back leg that our veterinarians believe was likely caused by being hit by a car while surviving on her own. The injury healed without treatment, meaning she carried that pain alone. She is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped.
