About Comet

Comet, a charming 3-year-old, neutered male hound/retriever mix weighing 56 pounds, is ready to bring his boundless affection and playful spirit to a loving family. Known affectionately as Buddy in his foster home, Comet was rescued from the streets and then saved from the county shelter in San Antonio, Texas. He's a resilient and adaptable dog who thrives on connection and is eager to find his forever home. Comet has a balanced playstyle, enjoys a good zoomie session, and has shown no food aggression with his current canine housemate. He's also well-acquainted with indoor cats and children, though his herding instincts mean a home with children aged 10 and older, or those who understand animal behavior, is recommended.

Ideal Home

Comet would be happiest in a home with another friendly dog to share his life with, as he enjoys having a sibling to snuggle and play with. He's also done well with indoor cats and children.

Ongoing Health

Comet is generally healthy and has no known ongoing health conditions.

Training & Support

Comet is fully house, crate, and leash trained. He sleeps through the night in his crate without complaint and walks politely on a leash without pulling. He’s also reliably alerted his foster family when he needs to potty, and has had no accidents in the house. Comet doesn't seem to suffer from separation anxiety, but he does enjoy tasting things he shouldn't, so he's crated when unsupervised. While Comet is incredibly eager to please and easy to train with positive reinforcement, he is a bit wary of men. With patience and consistency from his new family, he's confident he'll warm up to any male figures in his life, just as he has with his foster dad.
