Riley is a small dog with a giant personality who has spent two years in his foster home. He is a very special boy who needs a patient, understanding adopter willing to earn his trust, provide security, and let him move at his own pace. Riley loves affection on his terms, staying warm, sweaters, heaters, treats, and his open crate as a safe space.

Ideal Home

Riley would do best with adults only because anxiety can make him overwhelmed by children, although he has lived with children and done well. He can live with calm dogs close to his size, but he is not comfortable with large or young dogs. He may become nippy if his space is ignored, so adopters must avoid pushing or rushing him.

Ongoing Health

• Riley is almost 8 years old and is neutered and current on vaccines.
• He had a dental in December and is missing most of his teeth.
• He eats dry food softened with water.
• Riley needs a consistent, non-prescription diet because changes upset his stomach.
• He is no longer taking medication with his foster family, though short-term medication may be needed after transition depending on Riley and his adopter.
• Please do not give him people food or table scraps, as he becomes obsessive about them and they may risk pancreatitis.

Training & Support

• Riley has an open crate that he chooses to use as a comfort space.
• He is very treat motivated.
• He communicates clearly, including by barking when he wants something.
• He needs patience, understanding, and time to build trust.

• The rescue will be particular about Riley’s adopters and is seeking a committed forever home.
