Riley

Riley is an almost 8-year-old small dog with a GIANT personality! He's a very special case who has spent the last two years in his foster home receiving lots of love and dedication. He's looking for a forever home that understands he needs patience and security, and will let him move at his own pace. Riley is incredibly treat-motivated and will do anything for a tasty reward. He communicates his needs clearly, often with a bark, so you'll always know what he wants! He loves warmth and can often be found enjoying sweaters and heaters, especially after his move from Texas to Ohio.

Ideal Home

Riley would do best in an adult-only home. He is fine with calm, similarly-sized dogs but can get overwhelmed by large or young dogs. He has a history of being food-obsessed with people food, so it's important to avoid giving him table scraps to prevent pancreatitis.

Ongoing Health

Riley is current on all vaccines and is neutered. He had a dental procedure in December and is missing most of his teeth, so he eats dry food soaked in water. He can get an upset belly if his diet is changed, so he's on a specific, non-prescription diet that works well for him. While he is not on medication currently, he might benefit from short-term medication in a new environment, depending on his adjustment.

Training & Support

Riley requires adopters who will earn his trust and provide him with a sense of security. He can be nippy if his space isn't respected, so it's crucial not to rush or push him. He has a crate that he uses as a safe space, and the door can remain open for him to retreat into when he needs comfort.
