About Bear

Bear is an 80-pound, 22-month-old neutered male German Shepherd mix with a big heart and a lot of love to give! He's an energetic, intelligent, and protective boy who was adopted from the Sacramento SPCA in June 2022. Bear's current family loves him dearly but has unfortunately found that he does not get along with their resident cats, which is the primary reason he is looking for a new home. Despite the best efforts of two professional trainers, Bear's cat issues persist.

Ideal Home

Bear would do best in a home without cats, as he is not good with them. He has not yet been introduced to young children. Bear is generally friendly with people and will initially bark at new people in the house before settling down and becoming approachable. When meeting people on walks, his reaction can vary from welcoming attention to barking or growling.

Ongoing Health

Bear is in good health and up-to-date on core vaccinations.

Training & Support

Bear has received formal obedience training from two trainers. He walks well on leash, though he can become reactive towards other dogs when on leash. He is housetrained and has very good manners inside. When his people are away for short periods (two hours or less), he is crated to ensure he doesn't bother the cats. Bear loves to play "find it," fetch, and solve food puzzles. His favorite toys include tennis balls, a flirt pole, squeaky toys, and socks. He also enjoys car rides and is generally a polite passenger, though he prefers the passenger seat if available.
